What can Smartlipo, in the hands of an experienced Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon, do for you?
THE BATTLE OF THE BULGE
Almost everyone has an area that they wish they could “fix”. Smartlipo is an effective solution to target areas of fat that are difficult to lose, even with diet and exercise. Dr. Thompson treats patients with Smartlipo-MPX in the following areas:
- Abdomen
- Flanks (hips/love handles)
- Back (bra rolls)
- Upper Arms
- Inner Thighs
- Outer Thighs
- Under Chin
NEW TECHNOLOGY FOR FAT REDUCTION
Advances in the field of Plastic Surgery are wonderful… however, it is so important for patients to do their research about procedures and, more importantly, their provider.
WHO SHOULD PERFORM MY PROCEDURE?
Whichever body sculpting procedure you ultimately decide upon, please make sure you go to a Plastic Surgeon who is Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Lately, it seems that a variety of procedures traditionally thought to be considered ”Plastic Surgery” are being performed by non-Plastic Surgeons. Scary, but true. Plastic Surgeons have the knowledge and training and fully understand the anatomy they’re treating.
WHY SMARTLIPO-MPX?
At the Thompson Center for Plastic Surgery, Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Rudy Thompson, performs the minimally-invasive laser assisted liposuction procedure, Smartlipo-MPX. The designation of “MPX” refers to the skin tightening ability that this new technology offers in which the first generation Smartlipo does not. This procedure permanently removes fat after liquidating it with laser technology. This is a one-time procedure which is attractive to patients whose schedules do not allow for multiple visits.
Smartlipo procedures are performed right in our office and do not require the need for general anesthesia. Bruising and “downtime” are minimal as opposed to traditional liposuction procedures.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT?
Once you have had your consultation with Dr. Thompson and have decided to schedule your Smartlipo-MPX procedure at the Thompson Center for Plastic Surgery, the office transforms into your own personal escape. Our cozy environment and warm, friendly staff members will help to put you at ease from the moment you arrive for your procedure. When you schedule a Smartlipo procedure at the Thompson Center you will not be experience the hustle and bustle of a busy reception area when you arrive for your procedure. We make sure that the calendar is clear…. with the exception of you.
Only one patient is booked for Smartlipo at a time and, therefore, the office is yours and yours alone. The waiting room becomes your living room, the staff is completely dedicated to making you feel comfortable throughout the course of your visit and the spa room becomes your relaxing recovery retreat when your procedure is done. Loved one(s) (who will drive you home) are welcomed to stay in the “living room” to wait while you are treated or we will gladly contact them when you are ready to go home.
Now that you know about what to expect from Smartlipo-MPX performed by Dr. Rudy Thompson at the Thompson Center for Plastic Surgery give us a call and schedule a consultation! Please call 732-410-4789 and ask what Smartlipo can do for you.

As Printed in Living In Magazine’s December 2009 Issue!
Overview of my practice:
Plastic surgery and cosmetic medical treatments tailored specifically for you. As a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon, I perform traditional cosmetic plastic surgery procedures such as breast augmentation and body contouring (including tummy tuck, and liposuction), Smartlipo-MPX (minimally-invasive laser assisted body sculpting), as well as non-invasive procedures such as Botox, facial fillers, laser rejuvenation and laser hair removal. At the time of your consultation, I will tailor a plan, specifically for you based upon your goals and my experience.
In addition to cosmetic procedures it gives me great satisfaction to help patients requiring reconstructive surgery, whether after breast cancer, or following a traumatic accident or injury. Patients who have lost significant amounts of weight, either through their own efforts or by gastric bypass or lap band surgery, are also treated very successfully by body contouring procedures.
How do you stay current with new advances in your field?
As a member of the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ASPS) and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), I regularly attend national conferences as well as local meetings. In addition, I thoroughly enjoy reading books and journal articles written by experts from around the country in the field of Plastic Surgery. I welcome opportunities to research and learn about new technology and products and meet with representatives often.
How has your specialty changed over the last decade?
Significant change has been the story of plastic surgery over the last decade. From new advances in technology such as Smartlipo and laser treatments to the introduction of injectables such as Botox and dermal fillers, the landscape of plastic surgery has changed dramatically. These new advances have opened up plastic surgery to a whole new group of patients who prefer to go the route of less invasive non-surgical procedures. Additionally, the economic environment has had an effect as in the example of a patient who, years ago, may have elected to have a facelift, but, instead, now may opt to have a “liquid facelift.”
Are there any programs your practice is offering to help patients hurt by the economy?
The economy has an effect on everyone. While media reports have indicated that the economy is now heading in the right direction, the reality is that many people are considering delaying purchases they consider to be “luxury items.” Some patients jokingly refer to their treatments as “necessities”. For many people, however, getting a surgical procedure that they have always wanted may seem out of reach. We are pleased to offer Care Credit to our patients as a way to finance procedures they would prefer to have sooner, rather than later. We work directly with Care Credit and have been successful in helping patients open accounts. Care Credit offers a variety of plans including the very popular” no-interest” plans. Additionally, we regularly share information with our patients via our website and e-mails about manufacturer’s rebates from companies who make products such as Botox, Juvederm, Latisse and Dysport. We understand that patients appreciate saving money whenever possible.
What would a referral say about your practice?
I am personally dedicated, as is each member of our staff, to making patients feel welcome. Attention to detail is so important and we have worked hard to create a warm, cozy and relaxing environment. Our cosmetic patients regularly refer friends and we sincerely appreciate the confidence they have in me and our staff. We love feedback from patients we receive during (and after) they have been in my care. Recently, we were told by a patient who was healed after reconstructive surgery, “we’re going to miss you… we love coming here.”

What You Should Know About Plastic Surgery
By Rudolf C. Thompson, MD, FACS
If it seems to you that the number of people seeking cosmetic surgery procedures is increasing, you’re right. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, 10.2 million cosmetic surgical and non-surgical procedures were performed in 2008 in the United States. Topping the list were Botox®, laser hair removal, breast augmentation and liposuction. If you’ve been thinking about plastic surgery or are just a little curious, please read on.
Along with the increased popularity, acceptance, and approval of Plastic Surgery has come the increased number of cosmetic surgery practitioners. There is a wide variety of doctors performing “cosmetic procedures“ traditionally known to be performed by plastic surgeons. Before you undergo any “cosmetic” treatment, be sure to check your provider’s credentials. A “board certified doctor” or someone referring to him or herself as a “cosmetic surgeon” does not necessarily mean that your physician has received the training and certification of a plastic surgeon who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
The American Board of Plastic Surgery is recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) and confirms that your surgeon has graduated from an accredited medical school, has completed a minimum of five years of additional training as a resident surgeon in an accredited program (including at least two years entirely devoted to plastic surgery), and has successfully passed comprehensive written and oral exams. Additionally, plastic surgeons who are members of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) meet the additional requirements of high professional, ethical, and safety standards.
There are new techniques, technology and products entering the plastic surgery arena on a regular basis. Some of these advances build upon traditional surgical procedures with less invasive methods often resulting in smaller scars and shorter recovery. Other advances include new products such as the latest wave of injectable treatments for facial rejuvenation. Laser-assisted body contouring procedures, such as Smartlipo™ have become increasingly popular. Do your own research first, then meet with your surgeon and ask questions. If you feel more comfortable, bring a spouse or friend. Most offices welcome and encourage such support systems.
There is a variety of reasons people choose plastic surgery. Some are looking to slow down the appearance of aging, others, to get back into shape after having children or losing weight and others to address a physical feature they have always wanted to correct. Whatever the motivation is for seeking plastic surgery, the key is to make sure that you’re doing it for yourself. Be honest with yourself, make sure that you have realistic goals and, by all means, do not do this for someone else. While self confidence is often boosted after plastic surgery, it will not turn you into someone else or remove all of your problems.
Every patient is different physically as well as emotionally and a “one size fits all” approach is not suitable. It is important for you to feel comfortable with your decision to undergo a cosmetic surgical procedure, as well as your choice of surgeon. Your plan should be tailored specifically for you. You are an individual and should be treated as such. Do your research and ask questions. Remember, it’s all about you!
