What Do You Desire?

Larger Breasts

Women with naturally small breasts may feel that their breast size isn’t proportionate to the rest of their frame or that their petite figure could be better accentuated by larger breasts. Breast augmentation allows you to have the body you’ve always dreamed of to feel more comfortable with your appearance, and it can help you feel more confident by filling out tops and dresses with a more flattering figure.

Enhancement of Post-Pregnancy Breasts

Many new and experienced moms find that their breasts lack the same youthful appearance as their pre-pregnancy breasts. While losing breast volume after pregnancy is natural, breast augmentation can help you feel more confident with your body as a mom. Breast augmentation can help restore the appearance of your breasts, and in many cases, they can look even better than they did before pregnancy.

More Shapely Breasts After Weight Loss

Many women lose fat and tissue in their breasts along their weight-loss journey, which can cause their breasts to shrink. When you have fought hard to earn a slimmer, healthier body, you shouldn’t settle for anything that doesn’t leave you feeling confident and satisfied. Breast augmentation after weight loss can shape your breasts and enhance your new physique.

More Symmetrical Breasts

A common problem for women is breast asymmetry. This occurs when one breast is smaller or a different shape than the other. While most asymmetry is mild, women with moderate to severe asymmetry can feel self-conscious about the appearance of their breasts. By choosing the appropriate implant size and/or shape for each breast, patients can restore a balanced breast appearance that looks natural. Improving breast symmetry can play a significant role in restoring your confidence with the look and feel of your body.

What Is Covered During Your Breast Augmentation Consultation?

Your breast augmentation consultation with Dr. Thompson is one of the most important aspects of your surgery. An extensive, in-depth consultation allows Dr. Thompson to fully understand your breast augmentation desires in order to provide custom results that best highlight your body’s natural physique. There are many implant options available to provide you with the aesthetics you desire, and what works best for you will depend on your preference and body type. Dr. Thompson evaluates your breasts using the High Five® System to determine the appropriate implant volume and location, and this system involves measuring the base width of the breasts, pinch thickness, nipple to inframammary fold length, and maximum stretch of the breast skin envelope. To help patients better understand the breast augmentation process and better visualize their results, Dr. Thompson commonly incorporates state-of-the-art technologies such as TouchMD and Crisalix® 3D Imaging in his consultations.

Your Breast Augmentation Choices

Implant Material

  • Saline implants are FDA approved for women 18 years and older and often provide a round, noticeably augmented look. Some patients prefer saline implants because they allow for easier detection of implant ruptures.
  • Silicone implants are FDA approved for women 22 years and older and often provide a more natural appearance. Some patients prefer silicone implants because they are less prone to visible rippling or edges.
  • Shaped, or “gummy bear implants,” are made of a highly cohesive silicone gel and are FDA approved for women 22 years and older. Some patients choose gummy bear implants because the integrity of the silicone holds its shape even in the case of implant rupture.

Implant Position

  • Under-the-muscle implant positioning places the implant beneath the glandular tissue and mostly under the pectoral muscle. This technique can provide a more natural breast slope and a realistic breast appearance.
  • Over-the-muscle implant positioning places the implant beneath the glandular tissue and over the pectoral muscle. This technique can provide a small lift to the breast tissue and can result in an implant that is positioned higher on the chest. However, this implant position is more prone to developing visible implant edges.

Implant Profile

  • Low-profile implants have a wider base with limited projection and more even distribution of fullness.
  • Moderate-profile implants have a mildly narrower base than the low-profile implants and have more projection.
  • High-profile implants have narrow bases and significant projection. These implants are rounder in appearance and provide more fullness in the upper pole of the breast.
  • Ultra high-profile implants have the most narrow base possible and are extremely round. They offer the greatest projection with the most upper pole fullness.

Breast Augmentation FAQs

What will my recovery be like following my breast augmentation?

You will experience bruising and swelling following your procedure. A specialty support bra is to be worn for a couple of weeks following your treatment to ensure proper healing. Most patients return to work in less than a week after their procedure and can resume their regular exercise routine after six weeks. Most major swelling subsides by six weeks.

Is breast augmentation recovery painful?

Pain management is one of Dr. Thompson’s top priorities. This is why he employs ERAS® (Enhanced Recovery After Surgery) techniques. This system uses multimodal peri-operative care pathways that start before your operation to help ensure comfort after the procedure.

Will I have scarring following my breast augmentation?

Scarring is determined by both the patient’s natural healing process and the location of your incisions. Dr. Thompson uses either an inframammary fold incision or a periareolar incision. These techniques may result in mild scarring along the breast crease or around the areola. However, most patients find that their scarring fades over time, and new advancements in scar management, such as bioCorneum®, can further improve the appearance of scars.

Is there a way to increase the size of my breasts without using implants?

Yes! New fat grafting technologies have advanced the fields of non-surgical breast enhancement. Fat grafting for breast augmentation involves injecting patient-harvested fat into the breasts to increase their size. However, fat grafting only provides a minimal size increase and can only be performed on patients who have plenty of excess fat stores to be harvested from other areas of the body.

What procedures can I combine with my breast augmentation?

A breast augmentation is commonly combined with breast lift surgery to ensure the new, fuller breasts are perky and youthful. Other procedures often combined with a breast augmentation include liposuction treatment and tummy tuck surgery. If you are interested in all or most of these procedures, you may be interested in a Mommy Makeover that incorporates them into a single operation.

What are the risks of breast augmentation surgery?

As with any surgical procedure, there is some degree of unavoidable risk. Dr. Thompson does his best to ensure his patient’s safety, but no surgery is ever completely risk-free. The risks of a breast augmentation surgery may include:

  • Bleeding
  • Infection
  • Capsular contracture
  • Allergic reaction to anesthesia
  • Poor scarring
  • Poor wound healing
  • Implant rotation
  • Implant rupture

Am I a candidate for breast augmentation surgery?

Candidates for breast augmentation surgery should be physically healthy, with no plans to become pregnant or breastfeed within the next six to 12 months. Candidate’s breasts should be fully developed, which usually occurs between the ages of 18 and 24. Breast augmentation should not be performed on breasts that are still developing. If you are dissatisfied with the size, shape, or symmetry of your breasts, a breast augmentation may be right for you.
