Plastic Surgery and Brides to be…

Considerations for some brides-to-be extend well beyond wardrobe and seating arrangements. Over the past several years, both men and women prepping for their wedding days have started to explore the realm of cosmetic surgery and other rejuvenation procedures in order to look their best for the occasion.

Something old, something new
According to the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, not only are more women seeking out procedures before the big day, but the majority of this demographic cites weddings as the No. 1 special event for which they would consider enhancements. Specifically, the source noted that favorite procedures included filler, facelifts, rhinoplasties and blepharoplasties.

A bridal party
Plastic Surgery for weddings are not, however, limited to just the bride or groom. Attendees, including those in the bridal party and parents of the betrothed, have also sought cosmetic procecdures prior to the ceremonies. The New York Times reported that many brides have requested less-than-conventional gifts for their bridesmaids, including group Botox treatments. Kacey Knauer, a 35-year-old bride, explained to the source, “If I were 25 or 26 and getting married, a bracelet, necklace or matching earrings would be fine. Giving them a bracelet isn’t as special as spending an evening together. Plus, as you get older, everyone is more conscientious about their skin and appearance.”

Many board-certified plastic surgeons offer special packages for brides, grooms and their parties. Oregon-based surgeon Elisa A. Burgess, MD, offers various rejuvenation procedures, including chemical peels, customized facials and eye lift treatments, that may be ideal for bridesmaids.

Engagement selfies may spark surgery requests
In addition to seeking procedures that may enhance looks for the big day, a rising number of brides-to-be have requested hand lifts to achieve the perfect engagement selfie. Shapemagazine reported that women have been requesting hand lifts to make their hands look more appealing during photo shoots. This procedure can take many forms – some surgeons use fillers to make the surface even, while others use lasers to remove spots or other imperfections.

Alexandra Berry, a bride-to-be, explained to New York news station PIX11 that she opted for the procedure because she was always self-conscious about her hands.

“I never liked how my hands looked,” Berry explained to the source. “I always thought my hands were a little boyish growing up so I figured why not. Engagement pictures are just around the corner so there’s no better time.”
