How Does It Work?
Ultherapy® uses ultrasound energy designed to lift and tighten your skin. It does this by directing temperature-regulated ultrasound waves at specific depths of the skin, stimulating collagen production in the deeper layers. Collagen is a protein that is essential to the health of your skin. It maintains your skin’s strength and elasticity, and the decline in collagen production later in life contributes to your loose skin and wrinkles. By stimulating collagen production, Ultherapy® provides your skin the ability to strengthen and tighten itself. Collagen continues to produce after the procedure, improving the health and appearance of your skin. Ultherapy® can be used on the face, neck, and chest.
What Can I Expect?
In your consultation with Dr. Thompson, you will review your treatment goals and Dr. Thompson will help you determine if Ultherapy® is the best course of treatment for you. If so, he will advise on the best treatment sites for your goals. During the procedure, your skin will be cleansed and Dr. Thompson will mark the treatment areas. Ultrasound gel is applied to your skin, and the ultrasound will then scan the deeper layers of your skin. Dr. Thompson views the condition of these layers and uses this information to target the ultrasound waves, triggering your body’s collagen production. Your Ultherapy® treatment can take 60 to 90 minutes, though this will vary depending on the size of the treatment area. We treat patients with over-the-counter medication prior to the procedure to help with their comfort during the procedure. Dr. Thompson will discuss different individualized pain management options during your consultation.
What Should I Expect During Recovery?
You can expect some redness initially after the treatment, but this will disappear within a few hours of the procedure. You may experience some swelling, tingling, or soreness; however, these sensations should also dissipate quickly after the procedure. Ultherapy® requires no downtime afterward, and you are able to return to your regular routine immediately.
How Soon Will I See My Results?
Your skin will gradually improve over the course of two to three months as the collagen production continues and, in turn, strengthens and heals your skin. You will continue to see subtle changes over a few months.
